Feist Family Theater Program

Take Your Children to the Theater for Free!

PictureKathe Feist and Gene Feist
Are you a Penn South parent with children ages ten to seventeen living with you at Penn South? If so, you are eligible for free theater tickets through the Feist Family Theater Program. Please complete the Feist Family Theater Program Registration form to participate.

The Feist Family Theater Program helps Penn South children discover the arts by attending professional theatrical performances for free. The program was created by Gena Feist and Riker Griffiths in memory of Gene Feist and Kathe Feist, original Penn South residents. Gene and Kathe’s lifelong love of theater is being shared with new generations at Penn South through the Feist Family Theater Program.

In 1965, Gene and Kathe Feist founded the Roundabout Theater Company at Penn South on 26th Street. Gene Feist led this groundbreaking theater for its first three decades. Gene Feist was a notable playwright, director, and theater producer. Gene authored fifteen plays and directed and/or produced over a thousand plays, many of which won Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards.

Kathe Feist was an actress who performed under the stage name Elizabeth Owens. She starred in over 100 Broadway and off-Broadway productions. Kathe also was featured in many television productions and films, including The Bonfire of the Vanities and Mr. Deeds.

In 1990, Gene Feist retired and his partner Todd Haimes took over as Artistic Director of the still off-Broadway Roundabout Theater. Under Todd's direction, the Roundabout moved uptown and has evolved into a Broadway powerhouse.  We greatly appreciate the tickets that the Roundabout has donated to this memorial program.
